Vehicle graphics options

How much of the vehicle do you want covered?

That is the real question, not wrap versus decal. Coverage drives the cost, and on most commercial fleets the right answer is less than a full wrap.

The options, in detail

What each level of coverage actually gets you

Design, print and installation all happen in our own shop, so the same artwork lands the same way on unit one and unit nine.

Fleet truck graphics with logo, phone number and tagline on a white pickup outside the Houston Graphic Signs shop, Houston TX — American Pool

Fleet Graphics & Lettering

The workhorse of commercial vehicle branding, and what most Houston fleets actually need. Logo on the doors. Phone number and web address where a driver in the next lane can read them. One service line along the bed rail. The American Pool truck above, photographed outside our own shop the day it went out, is the whole pattern: brand mark, phone, web address, social icons, one line of copy. Nothing else.

It is the cheapest option per vehicle and the easiest to keep consistent, which matters more than it sounds once you are adding a truck a year. We keep your artwork and layout on file, so unit seven still matches unit one three years later.

  • Logo, phone, website & service line on every unit
  • Layout kept on file so later additions match
  • Lowest cost per vehicle, fastest to install

Partial vehicle wrap with a printed graphic panel along the lower body of a dark grey work truck, Houston TX — MBCO Engineering

Partial Vehicle Wraps

A partial wrap adds printed panels to the areas people actually look at, usually the doors, the lower body, the bed rails and the tailgate, and leaves the factory paint as the background. On the MBCO Engineering truck above that is a door logo plus a printed graphic sweeping along the lower body, working with the dark grey paint instead of hiding it.

This is the sweet spot for most service fleets. You get printed color, gradients and photography that cut vinyl cannot reproduce, on a fraction of the material and labour of a full wrap. And because the design is built around the vehicle color rather than fighting it, a plain white or black work truck ends up looking deliberate instead of half finished.

  • Printed color & gradients, not just cut vinyl
  • Doors, lower body, bed rails & tailgate coverage
  • Uses the factory paint as part of the design

Close view of a full printed trailer wrap showing logo and project photography panels, Houston TX — Samson Energy Partners

Full Wraps

A full wrap covers the vehicle edge to edge in printed, laminated vinyl, so the whole surface becomes the design rather than a background it sits on. The Samson Energy Partners trailer above uses that space the way it should be used: logo, a four-point value proposition, and a strip of photographs from actual project work running along the bottom.

Full coverage costs the most per vehicle and takes the longest to install, so it earns its keep on the units that get seen the most. A lead vehicle. A trailer that parks on a jobsite for three weeks. Anything that spends its day where your customers already are. Across a whole fleet it is usually smarter to run full coverage on one or two units and fleet graphics on the rest.

  • Edge-to-edge printed & laminated coverage
  • Room for photography, value props & full artwork
  • Best on lead vehicles & units that sit on jobsites

Printed trailer wrap panel with a large tiger graphic across the trailer side, Katy TX — Katy ISD Tiger Band

Trailers & Box Trucks

A box truck or semi trailer is the largest flat surface most organizations own, and almost always the cheapest advertising space per square foot they will ever buy. The Katy ISD Tiger Band trailer above is a full-length print: one continuous design running the length of the trailer, panelled and aligned so the seams do not break the artwork.

Scale is the whole job here. Large-format printing has to be tiled, color-matched panel to panel, and installed over rivets, seams and door hardware without the graphic warping across them. It is closer to installing a building sign than a car wrap, which happens to be the work we were already set up for.

  • Box trucks, cargo trailers & semi trailers
  • Tiled large-format panels, color-matched across seams
  • Installed over rivets, seams & door hardware

Fleet rebranding

Rebranding a whole fleet at once

Fleet truck tailgate carrying the company web address, a unit number and a Texas surveying firm registration number, Houston TX — MBCO Engineering

A rebrand does not stop at the storefront. When MBCO Engineering & Surveying changed identity, the old graphics had to come off nine company vehicles and the new ones go on, unit by unit, without taking the whole fleet off the road at once.

“They wrapped 9 of our company vehicles and did such an amazing job. Michelle was so great to work with, very kind and delivered on time.” — Cynthia G., MBCO Engineering

Getting the old graphics off is its own skill, and it is where fleet rebrands go wrong. Vinyl that has baked onto a Houston work truck for six or seven years does not peel cleanly. Done carelessly it leaves adhesive shadows and ghost outlines that show straight through the new artwork. The same crews that remove and de-brand building signage do the vehicles.

The detail most shops skip is the small print. The tailgate above carries the web address, the unit number and the Texas surveying firm registration number, because on a licensed fleet that information is not decoration. Unit numbers, DOT numbers and state registration numbers go into the layout from the start, so every truck is compliant the day it goes back out. Rebranding the building too? That runs through exterior signage and indoor signage on the same job.

How it works

From artwork to a fleet back on the road

The same four steps whether it is one truck or nine.

1

Measure & lay out

We measure the actual vehicle, including door skins, body lines, handles and rivets, then lay the artwork out around them so nothing important lands on a seam or a door handle.

2

Proof before print

You approve a layout on your vehicle rather than a generic template, with any required unit, DOT or registration numbers already placed.

3

Print in 77084

Printed and laminated in our own Houston shop on a Six-Sigma production process, on the same color management as your signage.

4

Install & roll out

Installed indoors by our own crews. On a multi-vehicle fleet we schedule units in batches so you are never short of trucks.

Commercial vehicle graphics Houston

The advertising you already own

Your trucks already drive past your customers every day. Commercial vehicle graphics are the one advertising spend that stops being a monthly bill: you pay once, and the vehicle keeps working. For a service fleet running Houston, Katy and Cypress all week, it is usually the cheapest impression a local business can buy.

We are a sign company that does vehicles rather than a wrap shop, and for commercial work that is the right way round. The same team that designs your channel letters and prints your lobby and wall graphics lays out your truck doors, so your brand reads the same on the building and in the parking lot. One shop, one color standard, one person to call, and no refereeing between a sign vendor and a wrap vendor who have never spoken.

The fleets we photograph most are the unglamorous ones: engineering and surveying firms, pool service, pest control, garage door contractors, energy services and school district transportation departments. Tell us what you drive and we will tell you what coverage actually makes sense for it.

Vehicles & building signage on one job

Most wrap shops only do vehicles, and most sign companies farm vehicles out. We do both under one roof, which is why a rebrand can move across your building, your interior and your fleet as a single job instead of three. Planning one now? Start with the outdoor sign catalogue, or tell us what you drive.

FAQ

Questions we get

How much do vehicle wraps cost in Houston?

Coverage is what drives the price. Door lettering and fleet graphics cost a fraction of a full wrap, with partial wraps in between, and then it varies by vehicle size and how much of it gets printed. A cargo trailer and a pickup are not the same job. We quote off your actual vehicle instead of a price sheet, so tell us what you drive and we will price it free.

What is the difference between a full wrap and a partial wrap?

A full wrap covers the vehicle edge to edge in printed vinyl, so the whole surface is the design. A partial wrap puts printed panels on the doors, lower body and tailgate and leaves the factory paint as the background. For most commercial fleets a partial wrap or straight fleet graphics gets the same recognition for a lot less per vehicle.

Can you remove old graphics and rebrand our existing fleet?

Yes, and it is a large share of the vehicle work we do. It is also the part that needs doing properly. Vinyl that has been on a Houston work truck for years does not come off cleanly, and adhesive left behind will show through the new artwork. We de-vinyl, clean and re-apply unit by unit, and we schedule fleets in batches so you are not short of trucks. See fleet rebranding above.

Do you put DOT, unit or registration numbers on the vehicles?

Yes, and we place them in the layout before anything is printed rather than adding them afterwards. On a licensed or regulated fleet, unit numbers, DOT numbers and state registration numbers are part of the design, so every vehicle goes back out compliant.

Do you wrap trailers and box trucks, not just trucks and vans?

Yes. Cargo trailers, box trucks and full semi trailers. Those are the biggest surfaces most organizations own and the cheapest advertising space per square foot they can buy. The print gets tiled into panels, color-matched across the seams and installed over rivets and door hardware. See trailers & box trucks above.

Can you do our vehicle graphics and our building signage together?

That is the main reason clients bring us both. The same shop that designs your channel letters and interior signage lays out your vehicles, on one color standard with one point of contact. That is what keeps a rebrand consistent across the building, the lobby and the parking lot.

What areas do you serve?

Houston and the surrounding metro, including Katy, Cypress, Sugar Land, Richmond and Spring, all from our shop in Houston, TX 77084.
