Printed Fabric Awning Signs
The classic storefront awning: a welded frame with a fabric or vinyl cover carrying your name, logo and colors across the face and valance. Metal Canopy & Fascia Signage
Aluminum canopies trade fabric’s softness for a rigid, long-lived structure — and the flat canopy fascia is prime signage real estate for dimensional letters or applied graphics. Because a canopy hangs off the building over walkways, attachment is the engineering question: our permit package covers the structural review, and our own crews and 40′ boom truck handle the install. Nothing is subcontracted.

Backlit (Illuminated) Awnings
A backlit awning uses a translucent face over internal illumination, so the whole awning glows after dark — storefront presence around the clock, popular with restaurants and late-hours businesses. Because it’s lit, the city treats it as an illuminated sign: the permit path adds electrical work, which we fold into the same in-house process as our other lit signage. Got an older backlit awning with dead lamps? An LED retrofit through our sign repair service is usually the cheapest way to bring it back.

Awnings + Channel Letters, One Storefront
The strongest storefronts usually pair the two: lit channel letters on the building for distance visibility, a branded awning at the entrance for the sidewalk. Two things trip up awning projects in Houston. First, once your name or logo goes on the fabric, the city generally treats the awning as signage — so it runs through sign permitting, not just a building question. Second, awnings project over entrances and walkways, which brings structural attachment and wind loads into review. Do I need a permit for an awning sign in Houston?
Usually, yes. Once an awning carries your name or logo the city generally reviews it as signage, and because it projects over walkways the attachment gets structural review too — illuminated awnings add an electrical layer. Can you put new graphics on the awning I already have?
Yes — that’s one of the most common awning jobs we do. If the fabric is in good shape, we apply new cut-vinyl graphics directly (like the awning vinyl install we did for Adventure Kids in Cypress). If the cover is faded or brittle, we re-cover the existing frame with freshly printed fabric — far cheaper than a new awning.
Fabric awning or metal canopy — which should I choose?
Fabric costs less, comes in more shapes and colors, and is easy to rebrand with a re-cover — but Gulf Coast sun eventually wears any fabric face. An aluminum canopy costs more up front, lasts longer, and gives dimensional letters a crisp rigid backdrop. Tell us the building and budget on a quote request and we’ll recommend one honestly.
Can an awning be lit at night?
Two ways: a backlit awning with a translucent face and internal LEDs, or external lighting paired with lit channel letters above the awning. Either way the illumination changes the permit path — we fold that into the same package.
